CyBOK Showcase Event 2024: Celebrating Innovation in Cyber Security

The CyBOK Showcase event, held on May 1, 2024, was a gathering of cyber security experts and enthusiasts, showcasing the strength of collaboration and innovation in the field. The event was expertly chaired by Matilda Rhode, Sector lead for AI and cyber security at BSI, as an executive board member of CyBOK.
Hosted at Goodenough College, London, attendees benefitted from a series of enriching presentations. Lively Q&A sessions provided opportunities to engage and network with speakers, with attendees offering their own insights and contributing to community development within the field.
Highlights from the event include:

Awais Rashid, Professor of Cyber Security at the University of Bristol, opening the sessions with compelling News and Updates from the CyBOK team, guiding attendees’ understanding of the latest advancements and applications within the cyber security knowledge framework.

Chris Ensor, Deputy Director for Cyber Growth at NCSC, delivered the keynote address. His speech artfully portrayed cyber security as not just a technical field but as a constantly evolving art form, highlighting the value of CyBOK tools to enhance the craft and navigate the cyber security field.

Ivan Flechais from the University of Oxford engaged the audience with his presentation on 'Practical Cyber Security Ethics', urging a thoughtful reflection on ethical decision-making processes in cyber security practices.

A significant portion of the agenda was devoted to CyBOK's educational outreach. This included innovative tools such as the Cyber Heist board game and Cyber Noir adventure, presented by Oliver Buckley, which aim to educate and engage different audience levels. This complemented Neha Ramanandi's presentation on Cyber Education in Schools, expanding the scope of support from students to professionals. Sam Attwood from Manchester Metropolitan University also discussed the Integration of Cyber Roles with CyBOK knowledge areas, emphasising the importance of collaborative inquiry in learning.

Tyler Moore from the University of Tulsa rounded off the presentations with a discussion on the recently released 'Security Economics Knowledge Guide', highlighting the guide's potential to shape strategic behaviours within cyber security practices.
