CyBOK Showcase Event Recap: Expanding Access and Impact Through Innovation On Tuesday 3 June 2025, CyBOK (Cyber Security Body of Knowledge) hosted its latest showcase event, bringing together academics, researchers, and industry professionals to explore new developments and applications of CyBOK’s extensive knowledge base. The event, held at The Royal Society in London, provided a platform to present recent updates, latest initiatives, and exciting new practical tools that are helping to evolve cyber security knowledge dissemination across the field.
Event highlights
The day began with a warm welcome from David King, Chair of the CyBOK Steering Committee, who introduced the day’s agenda. The programme kicked off with a presentation by Professor Awais Rashid, who shared CyBOK’s Updates and Future Plans. Awais reaffirmed our commitment to becoming a Community Interest Company, emphasising that our core mission remains: building a knowledge base created for the community, by the community.
Professor Andrew Martin shared news on CyBOK’s Topic Guide (TG) Updates, including the development of new guides on Cloud Security and Security-Informed Safety. The Security-Informed Safety TG will be supported through an open call for small projects. CyBOK Wiki – Expanded Technical Feasibility Study: Lőrinc Thurnay, University for Continuing Education Krems, presented the outcomes of his follow-up project exploring a user-friendly Wiki interface that builds on the existing PDF format to enhance accessibility and engagement.

Phase 5 Open Source CyBOK Practical Challenges and Learning Resources: Dr. Cliffe Schreuders introduced a new open-source platform, BreakEscape, a browser-based escape room game framework designed to simulate cyber-physical security challenges with a flexible scenario specification approach.

Investigation of applications for CyBoK within the international business analysis community: Mark Cross, Envista Consulting Ltd, presented his work on how CyBOK can support business change professionals, such as project managers and business analysts, by addressing a gap in early-stage cyber security training.

Assessing the compatibility of CyBOK and the European Cyber Skills Framework: Professor Steven Furnell presented insights from a project examining how CyBOK could serve as a valuable knowledge reference for European Cybersecurity Skills Framework (ECSF) roles, assessing the overlap and compatibility between the two frameworks in their treatment of cyber security knowledge.

Development of a lab environment and learning materials for the Security and Privacy of AI: Dr Hossein Abroshan presented a comprehensive set of learning materials on the CyBOK Security and Privacy of AI Knowledge Guide. This package includes step-by-step lab activities, machine learning code, and an easy-to-install lab environment, designed to facilitate both in-class and independent learning.
The CyBOK team is hugely grateful to all the speakers, attendees, and contributors who helped make the June showcase such an engaging event. In the spirit of collaboration and innovation, the showcase highlighted the value of making cyber security more accessible, practical, and impactful across disciplines.
